2024 Capital Gains Tax Rate

Selling an investment property?  Good news….the 2024 income bracket amounts increased when calculating long-term capital gains tax rates.

For the 2024 tax year, individual filers won’t pay any capital gains tax if their total taxable income is $47,025 or less. The rate jumps to 15 percent on capital gains, if their income is $47,026 to $518,900. Above that income level the rate climbs to 20 percent.

In addition, those capital gains may be subject to the net investment income tax (NIIT), an additional levy of 3.8 percent if the taxpayer’s income is above certain amounts. The income thresholds depend on the filer’s status (individual, married filing jointly, etc.) and are not adjusted for inflation.

Austin's Rapid Growth is Changing City Demographics

Austin’s population is getting older.

People aged 65+ are the fastest-growing age group in ATX, increasing from 7% of the population to 9.5% between 2010 and 2020. That’s a growth rate of 64.7%.

New Development on Lake Travis: Travis Club

The first 50 homesites have been sold at Travis Club, an incoming luxury neighborhood on Lake Travis. It’s set to rise on more than a thousand acres 15 miles west of downtown Austin.
When completed, Travis Club will include 497 homes – 274 single-family lots and 223 villa units. The properties are being listed between $775,000 and $3 million on plots ranging from half an acre to roughly three acres.
The community will include an 18-hole golf course, more than 10,000 linear feet of waterfront from Lake Travis, an extensive club campus and more than 30 miles of exclusive hiking and biking trails.

The 2023 list of Austin’s wealthiest ZIP codes ranks the median income of households in the five counties that make up the Austin area: Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop and Caldwell.
